Kona
coffee trees bloom twice a year in February and March. White flowers,
referred to by locals as Kona snow, cover the trees. Soon after
flowering small green berries begin to appear on the trees. These
ripen into a red fruit called coffee cherries which is a sign that
it is time to start picking. Picking the Kona coffee cherries is
done several times throughout the season and usually provides around
20-30 pounds of cherries per tree.
